Chemical Analyst
Opportunity to join our technical team in Ammanford focussing on the testing of materials and derived graphene-based compounds/products made using the HDPlas process
We are looking for a new member of the Haydale technical team in Ammanford to focus on the testing of materials and derived graphene-based compounds/products made using the HDPlas process. In addition to providing support for the technical team through the application of analytical chemistry principles, there will be a strong focus on monitoring and developing processing parameters and their relationship to product characteristics.
TYPICAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
· Material characterisation of powder, ink, dispersions and products within the analytical testing laboratory (SEM EDS, rheometer, zetasizer, mastersizer, hot disk, screen printing and electrical testing)
· Provide statistical analysis of QC and project data, highlighting result significance, preparing graphs and datasets.
· Liaise with technical staff to establish process trends (SPC) from analytical test data.
· Contribute to formal technical and process reports/presentations.
· Perform COSHH assessments for chemicals and chemical processes.
· Support Lean, Six-Sigma, 8D problem solving or similar methodologies for process improvement.
· Support & author SOPs and WIs as required for the process or analytical lab.
· Coordinate external testing of samples with sub-contractors.
· Identify opportunities to innovate new methodologies for analytical testing.
· Support the mathematical modelling of chemical processes using engineering principles.
· Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with external certifications.
· Support audits and regulatory inspections within ISO guidelines, ensuring good “5S” and Safety standards throughout the manufacturing area.
· Perform other tasks as maybe defined by the company executive in support of the business needs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum level of education and experience required for acceptable job performance.
· Degree educated (chemistry & chemical engineering preferred)
· Experience of working in a manufacturing development environment (NPI)
· Experience with project management within SME environment as a core team member.
· Ability to analyse process data, identify improvements and translate into a manufacturing environment.
· Knowledge and practical use of tools such as 8D, Root Cause Analysis, SPC, DOE etc.
A good understanding of material science and importance of correct handling, processing and storage of chemicals.
Competence using analytical laboratory equipment.
· Capable of liaising with internal and external suppliers to support needs of the company.
Desired Skills
· Knowledge of plasma or chemical functionalisation
· Understanding of carbon chemistry + allotropes
· Experience of quality systems management (ISO9001, ISO14001)
